World Wide Diplomatic Archives Index: Mexico

Legislation

In 2002, Mexico instituted a federal law of Transparency and Access to Public Government information. Under the law, requests may be made for records regardless of their date of origin, but access can be denied if the information remains sensitive. In general, diplomatic records are transferred to the archive after 25 years.
