Mr. F. W. Seward to Sir F. Bruce

Sir: I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your note of the 16th instant, in regard to co-operative measures for securing the suppression of piracy in chinese waters, and, in reply, to inform you that the diplomatic representative of the United States in China, and their chief naval officer, will be instructed to co-operate, so far as they properly can, with those of other western powers, towards the ends indicated in your note.
