The undersigned, Secretary of State of the United States, has the honor to acknowledge the receipt of Mr. Tassara’s note of yesterday’s date, relative to the bill of indictment found by the grand jury of the city of New York against Mr. Vicuna McKenna, an alleged Chilian agent, and to state, in reply, that the matter will have proper attention.

The undersigned offers to Mr. Tassara on this occasion renewed assurances of his very high consideration.
