Mr. Seward to Mr. Tassara.

Sir: In further reply to your several recent notes, relative to the case of the steamer Meteor and her detention at New York, I have the honor to state that a report has been received by me from the United States attorney in that city, from which it appears that all proper and necessary steps have been taken by him to prevent any infraction of the neutrality laws of the United States.

I avail myself of this occasion to offer to you renewed assurances of my highest consideration.

WILLIAM H. SEWARD.

SeƱor Don Gabriel Garcia y Tassara, &c., &c., &c.
