Mr. Fish to Count Corti.

Count: Referring to your note of the 26th ultimo, relative to the relations existing between the Italian ton and the units of admeasurement used in the countries named in the accompanying circular, and to my reply, I have the honor to transmit herewith a copy of a letter, under date of the 8th instant, received from the Secretary of the Treasury upon the subject.

Mr. Bristow to Mr. Fish.

Sir: I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 5th instant, transmitting a copy of a note from the Italian minister, and of a circular issued by the Italian government, relative to the relations existing between the Italian ton and the units of admeasurement used in the countries therein named. The instruction of the Italian government in relation to vessels of the United States will be brought to the attention of the parties concerned, by this Department, through its officers charged with the duty of clearing vessels.
