No. 755.
Mr. Fish to Mr. Stenersen.

Sir: I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your note of the 25th ultimo, renewing the request made by you on the 2d of October, 1872, that the line of steamers plying between Norway and the United [Page 1119] States may be favored with the same exemption from payment, in this country, of tonnage, anchorage, beaconage, and light-house dues that has been granted to the Belgian steamers in virtue of the treaty between the United States and Belgium of July 17, 1858, and to obtain the restitution of the duties which have already been paid.

In reply, I have the honor to state that the question will again be referred to the Secretary of the Treasury for his consideration.

Accept, sir, &c,

HAMILTON FISH.
