No. 674.
Mr. Evarts to Mr. Fish.

No. 188.]

Sir: I have to acknowledge the receipt of your No. 330, in reference to the emigration of a pauper whose name is given as Heinrich Ruegger, of Rudolfingen, canton of Zurich, who is represented as now in the poor-house at Ottokee, Ohio; and to commend the intelligence and great zeal you have employed in the investigation of cases like the one you present during a considerable period. The subject of pauper emigration to this country will soon be brought to the attention of Congress.

I am, &c.,
