My Lord: Referring to the ambassador’s note of the 2d instant, I have the honor to inform you that the Treasury has given telegraphic instructions Jo the deputy collector of customs at Seattle, in the State of Washington, to allow stores, including rifles, for twenty Canadian mounted police, to be entered at that port in transit for shipment via St. Michaels Island, Alaska, to the Canadian section of the Yukon country. The deputy collector of customs at Seattle has also been instructed to send advices by steamer to the customs officers at St. Michaels Island in regard to the matter.
