Mr. Dupuy de Lôme to Mr. Olney.

[Translation]

Mr. Secretary: I have had the honor to receive your excellency’s notes of the 22d and 21th instant relative to the Mora claim.

I immediately communicated a résumé of said notes by cable to the Government of His Majesty the King, my august sovereign, and in reply I have received instructions to inform you that the Spanish Government, which is as desirous as is that of the United States to avoid any cause of unpleasantness between two friendly nations, will answer as soon as it receives the text, which I have already forwarded by mail, furnishing the satisfactory solution that is desired by both Governments.

I avail myself, etc.,

Enrique Dupuy de Lôme.
