Señor Dupuy de Lôme to Mr. Olney.

Dear Mr. Secretary: On my return to my house I find a telegram from the Spanish consul at Key West, confirming the press report of the return of six of the Cubans who left Key West on the 7th instant, [Page 1196] the day of the George W. Childs expedition. The consul informs me that it is said there are more concealed in the surrounding keys, and among them one of the leaders, Serafin Sanchez. If they were rescued by the Raleigh or one of the revenue cutters, it will be a good object lesson, and will tend to have such people keep the peace.

Accept, etc.,

E. Depuy de Lôme.
