Mr. Terrell to Mr. Olney.

No. 603.]

Sir: I have the honor to inform you that the murderer of Mr. Stupe, of whose first trial you were informed in my No. 537, of May 5, 1895, has been sentenced on retrial to fifteen years’ imprisonment.

The reversal of the first judgment by the court of cassation without the presence of the consular dragoman caused my protest to the Porte, copy of which was sent you in my dispatch No. 529, of May 3, 1895. The result of retrial was as gratifying as it was unexpected.

I have, etc.,

A. W. Terrell.
