The Ambassador in Great Britain ( Page ) to the Secretary of State

[Telegram]

6663. My 6407, June 8, 5 p.m. Foreign Office informs me that in consequence of a further request from our Navy Department this matter has been reconsidered and subject to your concurrence it is proposed to send to the United States an officer of the British cable censorship to act as liaison officer between the two censorships, place [Page 1237] his experience at the disposal of the United States chief censor and serve as a channel for communication between the latter and the chief cable censor at the War Office. He would be accompanied by an officer of the British post office who has acted as confidential adviser to the chief cable censor on technical matters throughout the war and who has complete knowledge of the principles on which the British cable censorship is based. The liaison officer could remain in America as long as his services were required. Does this course meet with your approval?
