The Acting Secretary of State to the Ambassador in Great Britain (Davis)

5591. Department has received telegram from Secretary of State1 to the effect that both the President and he feel that no further delay should occur in extending an invitation to the Prince of Wales to visit the United States and that you have been so advised. Accordingly, I have today sent for the British Chargé d’Affaires and on behalf of the Government have extended a cordial invitation to the Prince to visit the United States. The Chargé d’Affaires assured me that he would report the matter to his Government by cable.
