76. Army is now assisting in policing city. General Blanche has been made Commander in Chief and we are practically under martial law. Serious clashes are feared about midday when crowds return from funeral of doctor killed yesterday. Public feeling against Ibaüez bitter. Doctors, lawyers, and engineers have gone on a strike and have adopted resolutions asking him to resign and further strikes are likely. Business is at a standstill.
