28. Department’s telegram 16, March 28, noon. Protection for Kaminsky, Ellis, and Bethune of General Motors requested in friendly manner from Governor of Santiago and willingly granted on March 20th, the day on which Kaminsky was assaulted. Foreign Minister was also informed. Saturday night I thanked the Governor for his action and indicated my continued interest in the protection which he had accorded. He explained that a policeman had been assigned for the protection of each of the three men menaced. Details of the assault have already been sent by air mail. Local representatives of General Motors say this morning that they are entirely satisfied with the protection granted.
