56. Counselor of Uruguayan Embassy has just called informing me that he had been instructed by Uruguayan Minister for Foreign Affairs to ask if this Embassy would assume chargé of Uruguayan interests during interruption of diplomatic relations with Argentina. I replied that I would immediately inform the Government at Washington and advise of the answer received. Argentina has entrusted its interests in Uruguay to the British Legation.
