45. Referring to my cable of February 20, number 40, last sentence, leading members of the Foreign Office in conversation refer to wider market in the United States as the outstanding opportunity to improve a foreign trade situation which threatens to become catastrophe. For this purpose trade mission to the United States is to be headed by Posse, State Secretary of Economics, as the strongest available man. I was asked whether 16th March would be convenient approximate date for mission to land in the United States. Please telegraph immediately in case date inconvenient.
