The Minister in Nicaragua ( Lane ) to the Secretary of State

Sir: Referring to my despatch No. 348 of July 20, 1934, concerning the steps I have taken in regard to the Department’s wish, as expressed in its telegram No. 41 of July 17, 8 p.m., to commence exploratory conversations with a view to the negotiation of a reciprocal trade agreement between the United States and Nicaragua, and particularly to the informal note which I addressed, under date of July 19, to the Nicaraguan Minister for Foreign Affairs on the subject (enclosure No. 1 to the despatch under reference), I have the honor to transmit herewith copies and translations of an informal note in reply to the latter which I have just received from the Minister of Foreign Affairs16 and in which the continued interest of the Nicaraguan Government in negotiating such an agreement and its acceptance of the proposed procedure is expressed.
