The Consul at Geneva (Gilbert) to the Secretary of State

415. Consulate’s 408, October 2, 5 p.m. A further communiqué has just been issued by Secretariat giving the text of another telegram dated October 3 from Suvich86 to the Secretary General. The text read as follows:

“I have the honor to refer to the telegram from the Ethiopian Government received on the 2nd instant by the League Secretariat. According to this telegram Italian detachments have crossed the frontier south of Mount Mussa Alli in the Sultanate of Aussa. In this connection the Italian Government has the honor to state that apart from the fact that in the region in question the frontier between Eritrea and the Sultanate of Aussa has not yet been delimited, no military movement of Italian detachments has taken place in that region. The report in question is thus entirely unfounded.”
