Sir: There is enclosed for your information and consideration a copy of a letter under date July 9, 1937, from Senator Homer T. Bone,57 suggesting that this Government should obtain full information about the destination of all Japanese fishing vessels, where they fish and what they catch, and also that permission be obtained from the Japanese Government for representatives of this Government to board Japanese public and private vessels in Bering Sea and examine their operations. The Department’s reply is also enclosed.57 The Department [Page 753] will give consideration to any recommendations which may occur to you with reference to Senator Bone’s suggestions.
