Your 5051, August 4, 4 p.m. You may inform the Prime Minister that with respect to the British assurances this Government has authorized its Chargé d’Affaires in Lisbon to communicate to Dr. Salazar its agreement to respect Portuguese sovereignty in all Portuguese colonies if (but only if) Dr. Salazar should approach the Chargé d’Affaires with a request for such an undertaking.69
