4772. The following is translation of note dated August 4 handed to me by Bidault this evening (my 4769, August 71).

“Concerning the communications addressed to it on July 31, August 1 and 2 by the three govts represented at the Potsdam Conference,2 the French Provisional Govt, desirous of avoiding inconveniences (inconvénients) which have occurred in the past, and noting that the communiqué published at the termination of the Potsdam Conference3 treats of questions about which it has not been advised, would like to know if the information which has been furnished up to the present time covers the whole of the results of the conference, or if other important decisions have been made, notably with regard to the multiple problems with which the Council of Ministers of the five great powers will have to deal”.
