1078. Deptel 808, August 29. Greenup and Thompson,29 noon yesterday, saw Miranda and Maroglio, Presidents respectively National Economic [Page 307] Council and Central Bank, who indicated delivery 30,000 metric tons monthly September–December and 60,000 January–May, all from ports up river Buenos Aires. If possible, would exceed these rates. Miranda indicated total current uncommitted surplus about 1,000,000 tons.

They ask 35 pesos per 100 kilos f.a.s. in shelled bulk, plus one-half percent commission for Argentine Trade Promotion Institute. Estimate cost to put bulk corn aboard ship at 55 centavos per 100 kilos and any necessary quantity bagged at 1.35 pesos per 100 kilos. Indicated exchange rate 335,82 pesos to $100.

In remark undoubtedly made for effect, Miranda referred to number recent corn inquiries from other countries and expressed belief price might soon reach 40 pesos.
