473. Editorial Note

The third preparatory meeting prior to the Third Antarctic Treaty Consultative Meeting was held in Brussels on June 6, 1963. Participants discussed Chilean proposals to modify a British draft convention on the protection of Antarctic flora and fauna. They agreed that the Third Consultative Meeting should decide whether measures to protect wildlife should be in the form of a code or a convention, although preparatory meetings could draft the text. Participants then discussed agenda items for the Third Consultative Meeting, and tentatively agreed to include: a draft text of the convention for the protection of Antarctic flora and fauna, exchange of scientific information, the result of the Washington telecommunications meeting, administrative arrangements between consultative meetings, and creation of a regional meteorological establishment.
