Mr. Evarts to Mr. Farman.

Sir: Referring to the instruction sent to you on the 28th of June last, No. 170, and to your No. 412 of the 22d of the same month, and the answer made thereto on the 20th ultimo, in relation to the commission of liquidation organized by certain of the European powers for the adjustment of the obligations of the Khedive’s Government toward [Page 1023] its foreign creditors, I have now to transmit for your information copy of a note received from the British minister at this capital on the same subject,* and of the reply which I have made thereto, acquainting him with the views and final action of this government in the premises. Notes, identical with the British communication, have also been received from the representatives of Austria-Hungary, Germany, France, and Italy, and to each the same answer has been made.

I have also communicated a copy to the Russian legation in respéonse to its communication to me of the attitude of reserve assumed by the Imperial Government.
