158. Nanking’s 73, March 31, noon. The British Military Attaché, who returned last night to Peiping from Taiyuan, states that (1) in all, seven National Government divisions or parts of divisions have entered Shansi, as follows: 2nd, 4th, 6th, 25th, 141st and 142nd Divisions; (2) Hungtung and Linfen (Pingyang) are still surrounded by Communist forces but are holding out while Government forces are converging on the area from north and south; and (3) the Government forces would seem to have the situation well in hand in the Province.
