No. 11.

Mr. Bruce to Mr. Hammond.—(Received December 16.)

Sir: I have laid before Secretary Sir George Grey your letter of the 12th instant, and its enclosures, respecting the enlistment at Queenstown of British subjects to serve on board the United States steam vessel-of-war the Kearsarge; and I am to acquaint you, for the information of Earl Russell, that the papers have been forwarded to the lord lieutentant of Ireland, in order that his excellency may, if he sees no objection, give the necessary directions for the prosecution of the men so enlisted under the foreign enlistment act, in accordance with the opinion of the law officers of the crown in this country.

I am, &c.

H. A. BRUCE.
