No. 424.
Mr. Frelinghuysen to Mr. Romero.

Sir: I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your note of the 22d instant relative to the reported further invasion of the Mexican [Page 686] State of Sonora by Apache Indians from the San Carlos Agency in the Territory of Arizona.

I have hastened to acquaint the Secretary of the Interior with the contents of your note, and, in view of the frequency of the complaints of your Government of the acts of those Indians, have suggested that the strictest measures be adopted to prevent them from quitting their reservation and crossing into Mexico. I have also furnished the Secretary of War with a copy of your note, and have asked that whatever assistance may be properly given in the matter by his Dapartment may be accorded to the ends of restraining future depredations by those reservation Indians.

Accept, &c.,

FRED’K T. FRELINGHUYSEN.
