[Translation.]

Mr. Secretary of State: I have the honor to confirm my note of August 18, 1895, relative to the Tarsus incident, and to send inclosed a translation of a telegram addressed by the governor-general of the vilayet of Adana to the Sublime Porte, on the 14th of August last, informing it that the United States consul had written his excellency a letter thanking him for the satisfactory settlement of the Tarsus incident, and that Mr. Christie, accompanied by the dragoman of the consulate, had gone to express, on his own part, his thanks for the efforts made to that end by the Imperial authorities.

The moutessarif of Mersine informs me that the American consulate has addressed a letter expressing its thanks for the satisfactory settlement of the Christie affair. Mr. Christie, accompanied by the dragoman, called upon the Imperial authorities to express, on his own part, his thanks for the efforts made by them to settle this matter.
