Sir: On yesterday 45 political prisoners, all Hawaiian, sentenced to five years each, were released from prison, their sentences having been suspended, subject to remand on the order of the President.

In the following cases the sentences were commuted: C. T. Gulick, thirty-five years, to twenty years; W. H. Ricard, thirty-five years, to twenty years; W. H. Seward, thirty-five years, to twenty years; R. W. Wilcox, thirty-five years, to twenty years; T. B. Walker, twenty years, to fifteen years; Carl Widemann, thirty years, to fifteen years; [Page 862] Lewis Marshall, twenty years, to sixteen years; W. H. C. Greig, twenty years, to fifteen years.

Of the above, Gulick, Seward, and Marshall claim to be American citizens.
