Mr. Olney to Mr. Terrell.

No. 804.]

Sir: I have received your No. 755, of the 2d instant, touching the situation in the province of Aleppo.

The Department heartily approves your purpose to ask to have regular troops detailed for the protection of American citizens at Aintab, and I observe with no slight degree of satisfaction your strong commendation of the action of Mr. Frederick Poche, our consular agent at Aleppo, in behalf of our citizens there. It is most cordially appreciated by the Department.

I am, etc.,

Richard Olney.
