Referring to the memorandum of the Embassy of Mexico, of the 24th ultimo,¹ requesting that the investigation of a recent attempt to remove 100 guns and 75,000 cartridges stored at San Antonio be so conducted as to prevent the unlawful use of the arms and ammunition mentioned, the Department of State has the honor to say that it is advised by the Acting Attorney General, under date of the 27th ultimo, that a prompt investigation of the matter will be made and such steps will be taken as the facts in the case warrant.
