The Ambassador in Great Britain (Page) to the Secretary of State

[Telegram]

2105. Your 1529, May 8, and my May 10.1 Captain Smith of S. S. Gulflight, states that the conversation between the late Captain Gunter of Gulflight and the skipper of British patrol boat Filey was to the effect that Captain Gunter, in replying that the ship was bound to Rouen, asked when he could secure a French pilot. The reply of the patrol boat was that he could not get one there and directed the Gulflight to follow the patrols to the Bishop Rock.

The British Admiralty states in reply to my inquiry that the ships which did the convoying are now at sea out of communication, but the details will be obtained as soon as they return to port.
