229. Cummins left last night for Laredo having completed transfer of Legation to me yesterday afternoon. There was no hostile demonstration of any kind nor any show of force. Cummins informed me had received telegram from his Government intimating [Page 455] intention to ask that the Embassy also take over British interests in this country. I deem it worth considering whether such action on our part would be entirely prudent.
