The Chargé in Great Britain (Atherton) to the Secretary of State

No. 1151

Sir: I have the honor to refer to my despatch No. 1026 of November 6, 1934,10 and to previous correspondence with respect to American commerce in the New Zealand mandated territory of Western Samoa. This matter has since been mentioned on several occasions to appropriate officials of the Foreign Office, and the desire of the Department for an early satisfactory solution has been urged. The Foreign Office has continually promised to do everything possible to expedite formal action, but apparently nothing has yet been received in London from the Government of New Zealand.

The Embassy will continue to press the matter, as may be feasible, with the Foreign Office and will keep the Department informed.11

Respectfully yours,

Ray Atherton
