711.00 Statement July 16, 1937/87: Telegram

The Minister in Denmark (Owsley) to the Secretary of State

21. Department’s circular telegram August 4, 1 p.m.

“The Danish Government share the view that hostilities in any one part of the world exercise their influence everywhere.

We join in the desire for the preservation of peace expressed by Secretary of State Cordell Hull; it is also our desire that all states will refrain from the use of power against others and desist from [Page 753] interference in the internal affairs of other states. We share the hope for the strengthening of international law and for the recovery of economic stability all over the world just as we adhere to the desire for a limitation and reduction of armaments. We express the hope that the participation of the United States of America in the efforts to carry these ideas into practice will lead to the desired end.”

Please see my despatch No. 8,88 mailed registered July 31.
