584. Puhl, administrative head of the Reichsbank, leaves tonight to consult with Lamont in Brussels tomorrow about the situation of defaulted Austrian dollar bonds and today asked Heath12 to lunch apparently for the purpose of impressing upon him the fact that although it was extremely difficult at this moment to leave Berlin by reason of the recent reorganization and new tasks of the Reichsbank he was making a special effort to meet Lamont in the hope that the meeting would open the way to a solution of the Austrian bond question.
Repeated to Brussels for Lamont.
