Nehru’s hand would he immensely strengthened if Britain, China and United States could issue joint statement Pacific war aims, specifically including freedom, self-determination for India and resolution defend India at all costs. Absolutely necessary to add weight of America, China to British promises to overcome Indian distrust of British which even stronger since Cripps’ failure. If to be done should just precede opening Congress.
