The Chargé in the Soviet Union (Thurston) to the Secretary of State

85. Vice Commissar Dekanosov inquired of me this evening whether the Soviet Government might advise the Turkish Government that the American Government had supplied the information regarding the German origin of the attempt on Von Papen which I recently conveyed to Vyshinski.

I replied that although I had no doubt that the information was furnished in order that it might be employed as the Soviet Government saw fit, I would have to request instructions with respect to its attribution to my Government.

Prompt instructions are requested.
