2925. Department’s 2395, April 15, 8 p.m. and Embassy’s 2909, April 27, midnight. Strang has just telephoned us to say that Massigli has assured the Foreign Office that instructions will be issued today recalling Bertaud to London. The Foreign Office is telegraphing [Page 278] the Governor of Trinidad in this sense, instructing him to get in touch with Bertaud and arrange for his early departure.
