Memorandum by Mr. E. Tomlin Bailey of the Special War Problems Division

Mr. Gunningham43 telephoned to say that he had been informed by the Foreign Office that they did not think it necessary that the British and American protests concerning the German mistreatment of parachutists had to be identical. The Foreign Office is forwarding copies of the correspondence and statements made during the discussions with Germany after the fall of Crete and Mr. Gunningham promised to send copies of these documents to the Department for its information as well as a copy of the British note which is shortly to be sent.44
