The Chargé in the United Kingdom (Gallman) to the Secretary of State

9453. The Embassy took up with the Foreign Office the contents of the Department’s 8924 October 26, 2 p.m. Foreign Office tells us that the Departmental Committee on Censorship in London on which Lt. Commander Patterson, United States Navy, is a representative objected to the establishment of a Saudi Arabian Government radio station on security grounds because the control of the station would be in the hands of the Saudi Arabian Government. The Foreign Office also stated that Mr. Berle99 had discussed this matter with the British Embassy in Washington and that the Foreign Office would prefer that this whole question be handled through that channel.
