The Chargé in Brazil (Key) to the Secretary of State
1471. Moscow’s 3084, October 23 to Department.23 Called on Secretary General Foreign Office at noon today and drew his attention to complications created by inadequate police protection of Soviet Embassy premises Rio. I expressed hope that no further similar incidents would occur and enquired whether precautions were being taken in view of the large demonstration of solidarity scheduled for this afternoon in front of Catete Palace and danger that some of participants might afterwards demonstrate before Soviet Embassy. [Page 401] Accioly stated that he would immediately telephone police to post adequate guard around Soviet Embassy premises.
