Editorial Note

During an informal luncheon meeting following the first session of the Nine-Power Conference, Dulles and Eden discussed the possible [Page 1414] stationing of British troops in Austria after their withdrawal from Trieste, United States plans to negotiate a mutual security treaty with Formosa, and the problem of ensuring that the Suez Canal remain open to all traffic. Summaries of the discussion of these three subjects were transmitted to the Department of State in telegrams Dulte 7, 8, and 9, respectively; none are printed here.
