226. Editorial Note

On December 24, William Worthy, correspondent for the Afro-American newspaper, entered the People’s Republic of China in contravention of the ban on such travel by the Department of State. Worthy was followed shortly thereafter by Edmund Stevens and Philip Harrington, a reporter-photographer team for Look magazine. On December 28, the Department of State issued a statement indicating that as a result of a violation of passport regulations, the passports of the three journalists would be valid only for their return to the United States.
