370. Editorial Note

In a memorandum for the record of the meeting of the Joint Chiefs of Staff with the President on February 28, 1963, the section relating to discussion of Okinawa reads as follows: “General Wheeler led a discussion of the Chiefs’ views on the continued strategic essentiality of Okinawa to the U.S. military posture in the Pacific.
