The President of Nicaragua to the Minister of Nicaragua.1

[Telegram—Translation.]

The Intendant of Bluefields has informed me that last night at twelve o’clock the main barracks were attacked by Clifford D. Sands who has been absent from the country. For this reason and in view of other information it is believed that this movement is the work of the enemies of the Convention in order to prevent its approval. The attacking party repelled, Sands took refuge in the American Consulate. Four wounded on our side. Among papers captured there was found a proclamation for the independence of the Coast. All quiet.
