The Swiss Chargé (Micheli) to the Secretary of State

The Chargé d’Affaires ad interim of Switzerland presents his compliments to His Excellency the Secretary of State and has the honor to ask whether he could receive information on the following question.

In the respective Treasury Decisions concerning the proclamation of trade agreements with Belgium,22 Haiti23 and Sweden,24 it has been directed that the tariff concessions granted, i. e. the proclaimed duties shall be applied on the products of Switzerland (and Liechtenstein), with which trade agreement negotiations are in progress, until October 1, 1935. In view of the fact that a commercial agreement between Switzerland and the United States has not as yet been concluded and negotiations to that effect are still in progress, the Chargé d’Affaires ad interim would be greatly obliged to know whether it is the intention of the Government of the United States to take the necessary measures in order to extend further, pending negotiations, the limit as fixed in the above mentioned Treasury Decisions.

M. Micheli thanks in advance for an early reply with regard to this matter.
