6370. For Ambassador and Herbert Pell. Proposed press statement transmitted in despatch 17295, August 5 only just received and will promptly be submitted to the consideration of the appropriate authorities.

For Pell. Your telegram 6429, August 10. Request Sir Cecil Hurst to suspend publicity until this Government has had opportunity to indicate its views regarding statement which it will do at earliest possible moment.

For Ambassador. If necessary, obtain Mr. Eden’s assistance to postpone publicity.78
